Mothered on Sunday
(by our Restaurant Critic, photos by Prospero) Interesting place, Oba. Located in what used to be a well-known Jimena spot and, having undergone extensive renovation, this establishment is on the up and up. We had gone to try a well-advertised Sunday Roast but discovered it was Mothering Sunday and a special meal was on for the occasion instead. No matter. My companion chose>
We are looking for a food critic (redux)
On July 1st, 2007, we posted an article (see it here, and read the recent comments on it) where we were searching for a food critic for a Restaurant Review section that later fizzled out. We had the inimitable presence of G&T for a while (see their articles here), but they fell off our wagon, or maybe theirs. For some reason, we’ve had some comments on that ancient item, which you will notice in our Recent Comments thingy on the sidebar. And now we get this:>
LOCAL RESTAURANT REVIEW
You might want to check out this restaurant review from CadizNews, published today. Apparently, they’re going for a monthly review of places in Gibraltar and the Campo de Gibraltar. Worth keeping an eye on.

RESTAURANT CRITIC AT LARGE 2
OUR ANONYMOUS RESTAURANT CRITIC HAS DONE IT AGAIN!
LA TASCA
Having managed to park the car I was adamant that we would eat locally as, things being as they still are, we would never find a parking space. Reading in JimenaPulse that Victoria had returned to work after her nasty accident we decided to walk down to La Tasca. A friendly welcome greeted us and we sat outside perusing the menu with the usual G & Ts.
A wonderful portion of gambas pil pil and a large freshly cooked revuelto arrived along with the usual bread and olives. The restaurant by then was rapidly filling up – why no extra staff? – Pepe was rushing round and even Victoria hobbled out of the kitchen to take some orders. The main courses were the house speciality pork, very tender and the stuffed chicken fillets which, if my memory serves me right, were on the menu four years ago as a special of the day- these were served with what seemed like reheated chips. Please – new additions to the menu would be appreciated by everyone!
No room for pud so we sat and watched the comings and goings of the mainly British customers, both residents and holiday makers and after ‘her indoors’ had finished her generous sized brandy we staggered back up the hill suitably refreshed.
Hasta luego
