Serious vandalism at prehistoric painting caves

La Línea mayor resigns ‘immediately’
(Agencies) Mayor Juan Carlos Suárez (photo: DiarioSur) of La Línea announced this morning that he is resigning ‘as of now’ because he has been barred from public office for six months’ by the Provincial Court as a result of the Palex financial scandal, whereby he was accused and found guilty of ignoring court orders regarding payments for a hemodialysis service that go back to 1994.
€4.8 MILLION FOR IMMIGRANTS
Following recent reports (not ours) that the immigrant population in the Campo de Gibraltar has grown well above the average for the rest of Andalucía, it was announced today that those municipalities with the heaviest pressure are to receive a total of €4.8 million from the Fondo para la Acogida e Integración de Inmigrantes y el Refuerzo Educativo (something like the ‘Fund for the Support and Integration of Immigrants and Educational Reinforcement’, which means that some of it is due for our schools – hooray! – so let’s hope it gets spent there). The municipalities in the province of Cadiz to get their share of this munificence in a single payment are Algeciras, Los Barrios, Cádiz, Conil de la Frontera, Chiclana de la Frontera, Jerez de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera, La Línea de la Concepción, El Puerto de Santa María, Puerto Real, San Fernando and San Roque. ESTACIÓN DE SAN ROQUE BY-PASS
The by-pass being built around the back of Estación de San Roque is scheduled to be finished in the Spring of 2009. This must be good news for anyone needing to head for the coast, La Línea, Algeciras, Los Barrios, etc. – and especially those who work in Gibraltar.
HOLY WEEK IN THE AREA
We promised a brief review of the many Semana Santa processions in the district but we found it impossible to be as brief as we would have liked.
