LOTS OF HORSEY THINGS AT NOVENA
The local equestrian association, El Estribo de Jimena, which last year organized a fantastic event, is at it again. They have sent us their programme, which is part of the Novena celebrations that start tomorrow. A short version: Thursday, 4th (7.30pm): Parade through the streets; Friday 5th (10pm): Members’ dinner; Saturday 6th (7pm): Donkey Race; Sunday 7th (1pm): Carrera de Cintas and Garrocha (click on links for info and loads of photos) and free paella for all. IU ON LOCAL POLICE
The local chapter of Izquierda Unida (IU) has put out a press release in which it protests about the tensions between the Council and the Local Police, saying that it is bad management on the former’s behalf. Proof of this, says the communiqué, is the fact that there were several incidents at this year’s Feria de Agosto (See related article here), as there were, too, at the Feria de Mayo. “The situation that has arisen impacts directly on the people of Jimena,” it adds. “We hope that the decrease in our security is only an isolated matter and that it doesn’t become a daily matter.” The document suggests, to the Council and to the Councillor for Citizen Security [Andrés Beffa] in particular, that “consensus is reached by negotiation.” Read the rest of this entry »
NO INCIDENTS AT THE FERIA?
The last line in a wrap-up report in EuropaSur about Jimena’s feria said that it had come to a close without ‘any incidents to be reported’. According to several witnesses, including Prospero’s own son, there were several of these, particularly a wild fight, apparently with knives, on Saturday night/Sunday morning that had the Guardia Civil clearing the way with their batons. As a press release from opposition party Partido Andalucista says, “How many stitches does it take to make an incident?” More to the point perhaps is, how long does the Council think it can keep lying to its voters -always assuming that the newspaper of reference in the Campo de Gibraltar came by their news via the press office at our Town Hall, of course. And if not, how much is it costing us to keep bad news out of the paper? Please Read the rest of this entry »
SILENCE FROM THE COUNCIL
Using this same illustration, and under the title ‘Administrative Silence’, TioJimeno recently published an interesting list of questions that so far have been left unanswered by the Council. We have taken the liberty of translating them (click on ‘Read More’ below) but in doing so, we see there are several matters that have arisen over the last few days with which we have not yet dealt here. We admit to a backlog of local interest news and promise to update as soon as possible. Read the rest of this entry »
FERIA CHILDREN’S PARTY IN MAIN SQUARE
Several parents have asked Prospero where and when the children’s party is to be held. We are able to confirm that it ‘ll be in the Plaza de la Constitución this evening at 7 pm. Other things going on tonight are that the Queen of the Fair and her entourage will be handing out piñonate (the traditional Jimena almond ad honey cake of Arabic descent) at the entrance to the fairgrounds and at other places throughout the village from 8.30. Later there will undoubtedly be more drinking and dancing -plus a lot of noisy things- down at the sports pavilion.
