ON THE MUSIC FESTIVAL (Editorial)

The news in today’s paper is really no news (see previous post). But it’s not a case of ‘no news is good news’ either. As has been mentioned here before, this writer has been involved with the Music Festival in many different capacities, official and unofficial, since its inception and, while I thought it had been murdered last year, I now realize that this year’s edition can only be the coup de grace. Believe me, I sorely hope I am wrong and if I am, I’ll be the first to admit it. (Come to think of it, I never thought it would work to begin with and am very glad I was wrong then.) PA TO PROMOTE ANTI-NOISE CAMPAIGN

Opposition party Partido Andalucista will be presenting a motion to establish an anti-noise campaign in the municipality of Jimena. The party is to put the motion on the agenda at the next Council meeting in June. Has anybody any ideas how we can support the motion, or become active against excessive noise in our community? Please write in a comment. See previous noise-related articles here.

THANK YOU, TIMOFÓNICA

Broadband has just returned after a whole day, and we won’t be posting anything other than this and our pre-scheduled advertising. We knew it was a Fiesta Local but we hadn’t realized it went this far. All our calls to Timofónica had the same recorded answer: “There are incidents with ADSL:” Sounds like leaves on the line, doesn’t it? If you’re wondering what the word ‘Timofónica’ means, look up timo in the dictionary and come to your own conclusion. Thanks for letting us rant – we call it ‘technorage’.

HORNS ARE REPAIRED AND BACK IN PLACE

The horns torn off the deer on the roundabout have been repaired and the stag is back in place. TioJimeno published this photo of its surgery. The only question that remains is: how long will it last? Of course, that question could be applied to almost anything that is done to improve our village. To use a transliterated Spanish saying, ‘there is nothing written about taste’, the fact is that there are many things that are done (and all too often vandalised) to make things better for all, whether we like what it looks like or not. Watch this space for an upcoming review of some of these improvements.

LETTER FROM ROBERT NOONAN

Yesterday we received an e-mail from ‘Robert’. Given its content, we have assumed this was directly from Robert Noonan, about whom we have written extensively on several matters, including the proposed airport for Jimena, the San Pablo golf course and other matters in Gibraltar. However, his e-mail is concerned with an article that is a reader’s opinion (to read it, click here). To see Mr. Noonan’s e-mail and our reply Read the rest of this entry »
