ADULT EDUCATION CHRISTMAS PARTY
Xemina, the adult education centre, held it’s Christmas party recently. Present in the throng, you will see several expats, who were undoubtedly celebrating having learned to sing a villancico or two in Spanish (Click on picture to enlarge).

OPEN LETTER FROM FILM DIRECTOR
When my friend and producer of this documentary, José Antonio Pelayo, called me from Algeciras and asked me to leave Madrid at the beginning of July and direct a documentary on the Music Festival of Jimena, I thought I had won the lottery. When I arrived in Algeciras, I realized that I only had the numbers wrong.
But that all changed again when, on that first Saturday in July, I arrived at El Paseo and I fell in love with Jimena. I had heard about the enchantment of Jimena and her people and I had even worked at one edition of the Festival as a reporter for Sur newspaper. But I had never lived a festival as I did over this last edition.
Whenever one starts a project of this kind, one is accompanied by uncertainty throughout but the things that happen along the way make you feel you are not alone, as the song says. All the clichés dropped out of the sky for this documentary. The worst and the best of this type of production presented themselves in this small village of the province of Cádiz. And I suffered, a lot more than many might imagine; I suffered incomprehension, I suffered for the unthinkable of certain things… but I would do it all again because, above all, Jimena is more than just a pueblo with an international music festival. The documentary, Jimena, Entre Tientos y Habaneras is proof of it. Read the rest of this entry »
JIMENA FILM A GRAND SUCCESS IN MADRID!
‘Entre tientos y habaneras‘, the documentary made of Jimena during the last music festival was, according to its director, Juan Manuel Díaz Lima, a magnificent success at its preview in Madrid. Here is part of the e-mail we received this morning:
No te he podido escribir antes porque no he parado.
I couldn’t write sooner because I’ve been so busy. The preview was a success!!!!!
The people in Madrid loved it, they ‘flipped’ with Jimena and the Festival… Everyone wants to go to Jimena. The documentary was very well liked, with people from the media, so the critics are now out of the way. There was a party afterwards and they liked the documentary even better. As soon as I can I’ll write a letter for you to publish.
Yesterday […] there was a private showing in Algeciras. It will be emmitted by Onda Algeciras on the 31st. As to the preview in Jimena, [the producer] and your Mayor are getting together on Wednesday, probably to see when and how it gets a showing in Jimena.

They are here until after the holidays, (January 6th), opening in the morning til 2 and then in the afternoon. Yes, that’s what they told us.
