GREENPEACE ON ‘NEW FLAME’

greenpeace.jpgGreenpeace activists yesterday placed a banner on the sunken Panamanian transporter ‘New Flame’ that read ‘Diplomatic spillage’ in Spanish, in protest at the slowness with which the vessel is being removed. CARNIVAL IN 1909

img_8286.jpgSome time ago, we came across this painting of a ‘poster’ for Jimena’s Carnival in 1909. The picture had belonged to Mac Reynolds, who once lived in Estación. The words read ‘LOS CARRERISTAS JIMENA – CARNAVAL 1909’ while it depicts a jockey on a very English-looking saddle and a very English-looking horse, so it could possibly have been about the military establishment in Gibraltar, who may well have come over to Jimena for a bit of R&R. If anyone knows the story behind it, please let us know.

POLICE LOOKING FOR CAR

amy-photo.jpg
The Guardia Civil are looking for a British-registered white Ford Fiesta, C955 SLK, belonging to Fitzpatrick family friend Richard Brian O’Shea. The vehicle, used by O’Shea on his trips to Spain, has not been seen since Amy Fitzpatrick, 15, disappeared on her way home on New Year’s Day. Apparently, Amy knew that the car had no keys and knew how to start it. Police believe she may have taken it. The public is asked not to touch the car to avoid destroying evidence, and to call 062 or the nearest police station immediately on sight.

According to news agency EFE, the authorities in Spain and Ireland have had several reported sightings of Amy. For his part, the government delegate for Málaga, Hilario López Luna, said that while all options remain open, a ‘very important’ line of enquiry is that Amy left the area voluntarily.
