REMEMBERING DIEGO

diegomoreno.jpgTioJimeno has published a lasting memory of Diego Moreno, who died this morning. In a Jimena magazine, also called Tío Jimeno and published by Ricardo Gómez (TJ himself) and several others some time ago, there was a section called La Charraná (not in any dictionary but meaning, approximately, ‘self-deprecating, possibly apocryphal, joke or story’), which in its April 2001 edition carried a photo of Diego and a couple of charranás. SCHOOLS TO OFFER CURRICULUM IN ENGLISH

schools1.jpgTwo more schools in La Línea will be offering significant parts of their curriculum in English, according to news published in EuropaSur and in the official Bulletin of the Junta de Andalucía. El Rocío Primary School and the Virgen de la Esperanza Secondary School will thus join another eight La Línea education centres in offering bilingual education during the next 2008/2009 school year. STORM DAMAGE


Heavy rains and high winds knocked down this ancient pine tree on Plaza Olof Palme, next to the tax office on Calle Sevilla. The bomberos (firemen) were busy this morning cutting it up for removal. What a shame…
