NOVENA 2008 -Day 4 – Municipal Marquee

The Municipal Marquee, better known as Caseta Municipal, was a hive of activity all day and well into the night. The ‘typical cooking’ competition brought in hundreds of wonderful dishes. The judges had a hard time with their decision. The kids had plenty of things to do, with all kinds of inflatable playthings. The adults danced, sat, ate, drank and generally enjoyed themselves, too.

NOVENA 2008 – Day 4 – Carrera de Cintas

This was supposed to happen at noon, according to the programme. In fact, the main event didn’t get under way until after 2. A shame, because last year’s riding events were well planned and pretty much on time. However, the bar probably made a proft in those two hours. Aside from that, it was wonderful to see so many expats taking part in the events and just being there. PLEASE REMEMBER, IF YOU WANT ANY OF THE PICTURES, PLEASE SEND US AN E-MAIL, IDENTIFY THE PHOTO YOU WANT,  AND WE’LL GLADLY SEND THEM TO YOU (At least until we set them up so you can download them yourself).

NOVENA 2008 – day 1

WHAT’S ‘LA MOJÁ’?

IMG_7581 La Mojá is Andaluz for La Mojada, or The Wetting. It takes place annually as part of the Novena celebrations (Saturday at noon  on Algeciras and Castellar streets). The tradition began almost twenty years ago when the people of Estación (as it was then called, though there’s a trend towards using Los Ángeles now) used to play popular games such as greasy pole on the Saturday before the Virgin’s procession on Sunday. It was a fun way to while away the hours, especially for the children. It was also hot. On one particular day, the kids were taking a long time to reach the top of the pole, while their parents stood about sizzling in the 40º sun.
