TWO HORSES FOUND SHOT DEAD AT LA JARANDILLA
José Fuentes, the manager of La Jarandilla recreation grounds in La Almoraima, on the way up to the castle at Castellar, has denounced that two of the facility’s horses, used mostly for children’s rides there, were found dead from gunshot wounds on September 2nd, when forestry guards told him about it. The horses had been allowed to roam La Almoraima as Jarandilla is not fenced. Fuentes, who last saw them on August 28th in the company of a herd of sheep, thought that the animals were shot at close range by either a rifle or a shotgun. He added that although he has no proof with which to accuse anyone, he felt that it was unlikely that they were shot by illegal hunters, which “have no interest in domestic animals”, and not by the guards themselves, “who wouldn’t”.
FIRE ON TESORILLO ROAD
A fire broke out this afternoon at the edge of the road to San Martín del Tesorillo, near Cortijo Nuevo. It burned about 1.5 hectares of scrub land and was fortunately put out quickly by several units of the INFOCA forest fire service. It is likely the fire started by some idiot throwing a cigarette out of his or her car window. This is not only dangerous but plain stupid. And also against the law. You can be liable for a hefty fine if caught, though that should never be the main reason for not doing it. It’s as well to remember that fires of any kind, for clearing purposes or any other, barbecues included, are strictly forbidden until mid October. (photo: TioJimeno)
IU ON LOCAL POLICE
The local chapter of Izquierda Unida (IU) has put out a press release in which it protests about the tensions between the Council and the Local Police, saying that it is bad management on the former’s behalf. Proof of this, says the communiqué, is the fact that there were several incidents at this year’s Feria de Agosto (See related article here), as there were, too, at the Feria de Mayo. “The situation that has arisen impacts directly on the people of Jimena,” it adds. “We hope that the decrease in our security is only an isolated matter and that it doesn’t become a daily matter.” The document suggests, to the Council and to the Councillor for Citizen Security [Andrés Beffa] in particular, that “consensus is reached by negotiation.” Read the rest of this entry »
