REMEMBERING DIEGO
TioJimeno has published a lasting memory of Diego Moreno, who died this morning. In a Jimena magazine, also called Tío Jimeno and published by Ricardo Gómez (TJ himself) and several others some time ago, there was a section called La Charraná (not in any dictionary but meaning, approximately, ‘self-deprecating, possibly apocryphal, joke or story’), which in its April 2001 edition carried a photo of Diego and a couple of charranás. STORM DAMAGE
Heavy rains and high winds knocked down this ancient pine tree on Plaza Olof Palme, next to the tax office on Calle Sevilla. The bomberos (firemen) were busy this morning cutting it up for removal. What a shame…
ROSCÓN DE REYES

Roscón de Reyes is a traditional Three Kings treat. Shaped like a large doughnut and usually tasting a little of lemon, it is decorated with dried fruits and contains a surprise or two for the lucky finder. The gift is usually a coin, though sometimes it also contains the traditional dried bean as a joke. Its origins go back to the round cakes that were offered to the god Janus during Roman Empire times. It is available at this time of year at bakeries and supermarkets.
