About Jimena de la Frontera, the province of Cadiz and Spain as a whole, focused on this small village in the mountainsArchive for HOLIDAYS
No school Friday or Monday
Saturday being a regional holiday (Día de Andalucía), the schools in the municipality will be closed on Friday 22nd and Monday 2nd. Students at all levels and all schools will thus leave on Thursday (tomorrow) and return to class on Tuesday at their usual times.
April in December
We at JimenaPulse feel bound to remind our readers that Sunday, December 28th, is Día de los Inocentes, or Day of the Innocents. Once called Santos Inocentes, or Innocent Saints, and thus probably yet another holiday, it is the Spanish equivalent of April Fool’s Day. It is possible that your Spanish neighbours will want to play some sort of practical joke on you, which may come as a surprise if you’re not prepared for it. A favourite is to stick a paper figure such as that illustrated, on your back – you might then hear people calling out “Inocente” as you pass. So be warned… and take it in good humour. (See related items here)
Long weekend ‘puente’ for schools
Saturday, December 6th (Constitution Day), and Monday the 8th (Immaculate Conception) are both national (i.e. bank) holidays. Official offices will be closed as will banks and shops (though some of the smaller local ones may well be open on Saturday and/or Monday morning). No school on Friday or Monday, either (Those poor teachers…). Enjoy the puente – or ‘bridge’ between holidays, which this year happen to be over a weekend, fortunately, otherwise it’s a mostly a week off…
HOLIDAYS IN JIMENA
E-mails with details and prices are going out next week to those 22 people waiting to list their properties on our new partner site HOLIDAYS IN JIMENA. We would have liked to get it under way earlier but there’s someone called Murphy giving us a hard time. However, we wanted to get things right rather than rush into offering you something that is not up to par. If you haven’t already done so, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can get your holiday let up as soon as we launch (we’re not specifying a date ’cause we can see Murphy lurking in a corner over there). The picture shows the test site as the final version will appear (click on it to enlarge) – a lot different to the widget on the right sidebar announcing our new site.
MONDAY IS A BANK HOLIDAY
Monday, October 13th, is a national holiday. Banks, supermarkets and schools close to celebrate Día de la Hispanidad (Hispanic Pride Day one might call it), which this year actually falls on Sunday the 12th – but everyone deserves a break. You will be able to read more about Día de la Hispanidad on JimenaPulse this Sunday, so stay tuned.
