This is how Calle San Sebastián, perhaps Jimena’s most ‘typical’ street, awoke this morning (See more photos below). According to several neighbours, a group of Spanish-speaking people came through at about 2am smashing as they went.
Holy Week is one of Jimena’s most important tourist seasons and the comments heard from the visitors in the picture were a reflection of what they think of the village. Perhaps the most significant and hurtful one we heard was: “¡Hay que ver lo descuidado que está este pueblo!” (“How badly this village is taken care of!”).
Last week we posted a report on this same street (click here) but the authorities seem to have taken no notice.
