‘CULTURAL CHRISTMAS’

This is the official ‘Cultural Christmas’ programme for Jimena. A whole series of diverse activities for everyone, all the way up to January 9th! Enjoy! (Click the programme to read)

LONG WEEKEND AHEAD

Thursday, December 6th is Día de la Constitución (Constitution Day) and a national holiday. Friday, December 7th is a puente (bridge) though not officially a holiday. Saturday, December 8th is Asunción de la Virgen (Our Lady’s Ascension) and a national holiday.

Chances are that many places will be closed throughout, though probably not banks or shops on Friday. It is worth putting things like tax offices or official places off until next week if you can, as you are may not get full attention from disgruntled funcionarios.

GLAMMING UP?

This is the time of year when we start getting ready for (dare we say it?) the Christmas holidays. We eat out more, we invite our friends and get invited, we plan ahead more (don’t we?), we eat and drink more, we dress up more. So why not turn up at any of our sponsors’ premises? They are our friends, and yours. You can click on any of their names on the sidebar on the right to get all the information you need, and find them on GoogleMaps. It’s that easy.

Just be sure to tell them you saw them on JimenaPulse

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Although this is a very American import, Halloween is also celebrated in Spain these days thanks mainly to English, too often of the American variety, being taught all over the country. Text books at school contain innumerable references to goblins, pumpkins and the like. Still, it is a time for the kids to enjoy spreading terror legally. And also thanks to us foreign imports, local children have been known to dress up and go out ‘trick or treating’ of an evening, so don’t say it comes as a surprise.

BANK HOLIDAYS COMING UP

Monday, August 13th is a Fiesta Local (sometimes known as Hangover Monday), a local bank holiday. Banks, Town Hall and many shops will be closed in Jimena.
Wednesday, August 15th is a Fiesta Nacional, or national holiday, and most things will be closed all over the country.
Bars and restaurants, however, remain open.
It’s a good idea to stock up on home provisions today and tomorrow.
