Biodiesel plant for Los Barrios

green_fuel (Agencies) A plant producing biodiesel fuel is to be built in Los Barrios. The company, Greenfuel, part owned by Endesa, is investing €30 million and expects to be operative within 18 months, with work starting in April. The plant will have a production capacity of 120,000 tons of fuel per year and will employ 120 people.>

A pot of gold is what we need

PICT0037 Here’s just another pretty picture taken in San Pablo last Saturday. It’s the kind of scene that reminds us why we settled here so long ago, the kind of scene that lifts our spirits, which is why we like to share it. (Incidentally, did you know that there’s a move afoot to allow those great ugly, if useful, windmills into the municipality? For years our authorities have managed to forestall this alternative energy source from our landscape, but it seems that this might change soon. We’ll keep you informed, but bet that changes your perspective on the scene above…)

A factory for Jimena at last!

Factory (Agencies) Japanese multinational Naghaksake Corporation announced last week at a press conference in Tokyo that it will begin building a new factory in Spain in the New Year. The site chosen is in the municipality of Jimena de la Frontera! So far we have been unable to contact anyone at the Council to confirm this report (it is holiday season). However, it would seem likely that the site could be at the abandoned golf course in San Pablo or possibly at the as yet non-existent industrial estate at Barría, once the choice for an airport. Naghaksake spokesperson Itseki Nakamura did not specify when building would begin, though he did say that it is expected to provide employment for a significant number of local residents.> Read the rest of this entry »

PETROL FROM USED OIL AND A DEDICATED SCIENCE TEACHER

R8_Biodiesel_SIS_Sean_Johnson We stole the following from Cádiz & Straits News, our friend and colleague David Eade’s news site. We thought it very appropriate for these times.

“Behind one of the buildings at Sotogrande International School (SIS) is a small machine, a number of dustbins, some plastic pipes and a dedicated science teacher.

This believe it or not is where the SIS produces its own diesel fuel. The scheme is the brainchild of science teacher Sean Johnson (photo). He has set up the equipment so that the school’s pupils can learn about re-cycling in a very practical manner.
