About Jimena de la Frontera, the province of Cadiz and Spain as a whole, focused on this small village in the mountains

Thomas Cook sells its Novo Sancti Petri hotels

(Agencies) Thomas Cook, the European tour operator, is selling its Andalucía Playa and Royal Andalus hotels and the Novo Sancti Petri Golf Resort (photo) in Chiclana to the Iberostar chain. The Spanish chain has been managing the hotels since the 1990s and will now buy them in a multi-million deal with Thomas Cook.>Subject to confirmation by Iberostar, the deal amounts to some €110 million and includes 700 rooms, a 36-hole golf course and another three holiday hotels in Palma de Mallorca.
Thomas Cook is one of the principal global tour operators and a main channel for European tourism to the province of Cádiz.
Reaction to the deal among hoteliers in the area has been “worrying” and “disquieting”, though many are cautious. They have an important question to ask: Will Thomas Cook still be sending tourists to the province if they don’t own any hotels here, when their only local business is simply receiving them?
Two hoteliers with a long tradition in the area see no reason for alarm because wholesale tour operators rarely own properties at their main destinations, and Iberostar maintains strong business relations in Chiclana, which should now become even stronger. Besides, they say, two decades of hard work by Thomas Cook in the area should mean that the company will continue to have Cádiz as a priority destination.
