Spain’s judges out on strike on Friday

Spanish judges are going out on strike on October 8th, this time with the support of the main ‘union’, the Asociación Profesional de la Magistratura (APM), which represents the majority of magistrates in the country and did not support a strike held last February.>APM complains that the reforms planned for the courts is “insufficient” and is “absolutely non-viable in terms of sustainability and lacks the necessary consensus,” according to spokesman Antonio García.
Almost 700 new posts over the next three years were announced by the Government but these are not considered enough by APM to ameliorate the existing problems in the courts.
Justice Minister Miguel Caamaño has said that the judges are using the Budget recently in Parliament as an excuse.
