(Agencies) Six horses that had been abandoned by their owners left yesterday on their way to Holland from the CyD SantaMaría recovery centre in Alhaurín el Grande, Málaga. This is the first time abandoned horses have been transported to another country from Spain.>Their two and a half days journey across Europe is, hopefully, only one way. The idea is for the six to find a permanent home in Holland.
The initiative comes from the kindness of Dutchman Kennard A. Buisman, owner of Horse Service BV, which specializes in transporting race horses all over Europe. Transport alone will cost him €4,000.
Buisman visited the CyD Santa María Centre three months ago to transport a horse a fellow countryman had adopted. He was hooked on the centre’s work and offered to do what he could to help the centre.
And here’s the Jimena connection:
These three animals went on to have a decent end to their lives thanks to the kindness of Jimena residents. Over the years there have been plenty of others, some of them made it and for some it was too late.
