We received this from a reader, apropos our article on Help for Pensioners: “I followed this up and just received the following info from the British Consulate. Hopefully this will clarify matters a little. S”>
Thank you for your email. I am pleased to inform you that the article in the Jimena Pulse refers to the consolidation of the partnership between the British Consulate, Age UK and Age Concern Espana. This includes a full time telephone information line provided by the three agencies and the appointment of a dedicated country casework manager for Age Concern in Madrid. The number of volunteer caseworkers working for the charity will also increase.
The British Consulate and its partners already provide services such as informative roadshows and advice services. Together with these new measures, it is anticipated that there will be a more complete set of services to help older British residents in Spain to ensure they are getting essential practical information and all the help that is available to them from the Spanish State.
I appreciate the article may be misleading in perhaps suggesting new financial help for British pensioners in Spain. However. should you like more information on what pension, benefit and healthcare rights you have as a British national resident in Spain, please look at our website via the following link http://ukinspain.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/pensions-benefits/
Thank you, S!
