British consulates announce help for pensioners

Pensioner(Agencies) British Consular Affairs Minister Chris Bryant announced recently in Madrid that a new scheme to help elderly pensioners residing in Spain is coming into operation soon.> The scheme is partnered by Age Concern España and Age UK, the Minister said at the inauguration of new consular and Embassy offices in the Spanish capital.

With the purchasing power of British pensioners residing in Spain having diminished considerably over the last year, many are having serious difficulties and thousands have had to face the prospect of returning to the UK, often unable to sell their homes here. Furthermore, winter is approaching and the majority of British residents are not entitled to the winter fuel allowance.
