Back to school problems – yet again!

instituto.jpgIt seems impossible to begin a school year without problems at the schools. How this affects our children is evident in a communiqué issued by the teachers at the Instituto Hozgarganta in Jimena, published this afternoon in TioJimeno.> To summarize it, they complain that the education authorities of the Junta has reduced the number of teachers and thus there is 2º ESO class with 38 students including one with acute special needs requiring more space. Baccalaureate groups average 40 per class.

“We are obliged to publicly express that [under these circumstances] it is impossible for us to carry out our jobs in such a way that the students receive the attention they need,” continues the teachers’ statement. “We are front line witnesses to the degradation of teaching [at the school] and see every day how our sudents are victims of an unsustainable working environment.”

“How is it possible that the education authorities are telling us in the media,as we start the school year,  that there are improvements regarding materials but make no mention of classroom massification due to staff reductions,” it concludes.
