Fined €300 for selling ‘chumbos’: incredible!

chumbos A man, a neighbour of Prospero’s who’s always asking for work (Prospero comment: I’d gladly give him some if I could afford it), with a wife and children, who has been unemployed for a year without any benefits, was fined €300 yesterday morning for selling chumbos (prickly pears) in the street. Considering that unemployment in Jimena is close to 45%, and that vandalism is everywhere in the municipality, this is outrageous!(Originally from the personal blog of thelocal delegate for Juventud de Izquierda Unida Jimena, Gabriel Meléndez)

A comment published on TioJimeno by ‘Franquio’: “I don’t know what source [this item] came from, but it is absolutely false. The Police only told the man that he couldn’t sell without a municipal permit.”
There were other comments in support of the chumbo seller as well as the Police, whom, one of them said, “were only doing their job.”
