About Jimena de la Frontera, the province of Cadiz and Spain as a whole, focused on this small village in the mountains

School news: Secondary

school starts All Secondary schools (Instituto) in Andalucía, including ESO (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, Obligatory Secondary Education), Baccalaureate (Bachillerato) and its alternatives (Ciclos Formativos de Formación Profesional, Ciclos Formativos de Artes Plásticas y Diseño), Enzeñanzas de Idiomas (i.e. official language schools such as that at San Roque), Música y Danzas (official Music and Dancing Schools) and Basic Adult Education (Educación Básica para adultos), begin on Monday September 15.>PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ITEMS SUCH AS THIS MAY BE SUBJECT TO SUBSCRIPTION IN THE FUTURE but you can make a donation NOW, too! The first day at any of the above is usually only a half day of obligatory attendance, but ask at the centre for any further information.

School text books are free for the first three years at the Instituto. If your child is attending his or her first year at an Instituto, you must ask when the book tokens (cheques libros) are handed out. These can then be taken to any book shop that supplies text books (e.g. Garabatos in Jimena, Carrefour, Eroski, etc.). However, supplies can be a bit chaotic and you may have to return several times to complete your child’s book list, so we suggest going to the nearest to home. Exercise books, such as those for Inglés, are not included in the text book scheme, and nor are any other materials (pens, rulers, note books, etc.).

The following is the schedule for returning last year’s books to the centre, as applied to the Instituto Hozgarganta in Jimena, and is similar at other such schools – but ask just in case.

Monday, September 8 ONLY

  • 1º ESO – 9 – 10 AM
  • 2º ESO – 10 – 11
  • 3º ESO – 11 – 12.30
  • 4º ESO – 12.30 – 1.30 PM

Keep an eye on JimenaPulse for the School Calendar, i.e. holidays.
