One of these is scheduled for September 1, 15 and 29, from 5 to 8pm, at the youth centre in Algeciras. This workshop’s objective is to teach the differences in bird species that cross the Straits of Gibraltar in periodic migration.

Other seminars will deal with such subjects as ‘Why do Birds Migrate?’, the first of which is planned for September 8th, from 6.30 to 8pm at the Club Hípico Municipal Amigos del Caballo, in Tarifa. The second is on the 22nd, at the sametimes, at the Mercedes Gaibrois library.

Further activities include the observation of migrating birds from the Guzmán el Bueno castle, also in Tarifa, with guidance from volunteers and specialists of the Fundación Migres. This is scheduled for September 11 and 25, from 11am to 2pm. “Only if the wind is not too strong,” say the organizers.

The Foundation is also organizing two lectures on the environmental impact of wind farms by A. Román Muñoz Gallego, biologist of Migres. This takes place on September 9 and 23, at 6.30pm, at the Mercedes Gaibrois library and is organized with the cooperation of Tarifa Council and the Asociación Eólica de Tarifa.

The Migres Foundation was founded in 2004 with the objective of learning and spreading knowledge about the migration of birds across the Straits, and the effects of global warming on the phenomenon.
