(Press release) For some weeks now, the Jimena chapter of Izquierda Unida has been collecting signatures to protest against what the political group considers a “disproportionately high” rise in local taxes.>
According to the group, it is responding to demands from residents who are having financial problems because of the crisis, something it says is completely ignored by the PSOE-governed Council, which, adds its local co-ordinator Francisco Gómez, is “an indiscriminate and not at all understanding” of the situation.
The group handed in an official request at the Town Hall on June 19 asking for a public meeting with the government team to debate the reasons for the increase, to hand in the signatures and express their opinions on the matter. To date, no response has been received. “The cold shoulder for all our citizens yet again,” says Gómez.
