Botanical garden to get restored and improved

PICT0083 (Press release) The provincial delegate for Public Works, Pablo Lorenzo, visited the work being carried out at the ethno-botanical garden at El Risco (photo) this afternoon, accompanied by Councillor for the Environment Noelia García. Included in the renovation are new signs, benches and information plaques, as well as restoration and new plantings of native vegetation.>

This botanical garden came about as the result of compensation by the Junta de Andalucía to various municipalities for land taken to build the Los Barrios-Jerez road, which dates back to an agreement with Jimena Town Hall signed in 2001. The Junta de Andalucía is investing €300,000 in this project.

JimenaPulse note: The gardens were open until February last when they were closed as the result of considerable vandalism (see Take a Walk on the Wild Side here). It is a great pleasure to hear that work is being carried out at last to restore this jewel of a spot. Let’s hope that they can be kept in good condition, and that certain people learn to love it.
