José Regueira to be named Jimena Adoptive Son

José Regueira (Press release; photo TioJimeno) Mayor Pascual Collado announced that José Regueira Ramos is to be honoured by being named Adoptive Son of Jimena. The announcement was made during the presentation of Currini’s book on Saturday. Regueira expressed his surprise at the announcement. Official Chronicler of Jimena since the mid 1990s, Don José, as he is known throughout the village, came to Jimena from his native Galicia>

some 40 years ago. He was the village pharmacist until just a short time ago, when he retired and handed over the two chemist shops to his sons Héctor and Víctor. But retirement to do nothing is not his way. Well respected by all, he is a keen historian and has written several books on Jimena and other subjects of more than local interest, and runs a publishing enterprise specializing in his favourite subject; he is instrumental in organizing the annual History and Archaeology Workshops, which over the years have enjoyed increasing interest and respect from academic circles. He is also a founding member of various historical groups throughout the Campo de Gibraltar. ¡Enhorabuena, Don José!
