Sahara refugee looses limbs, another feared blind

sáhara (Agencies) A sixteen year old boy lost at least one leg to an anti-personnel mine placed along the border that divides the Western Sahara region from the rest of Morocco. A 21-year-old had his face burned and will probably remain blind.>

sáhara_dividido The incidents happened during a demonstration held by the Unión Nacional de Mujeres Saharauis and backed by the Spanish group Colectivo Saharaui, along what they call ‘The Wall of Shame’ (‘murs de défense marocain’ on the map, left), which is lined with anti-personnel mines.
