DEEP PURPLE IN ESTEPONA ON THE 11th
The famous (if ageing) rock group, Deep Purple, is holding a concert at the Estepona bullring on Thursday, September 11th as part of their 40th anniversary tour. Although the group’s and the town’s websites say the 12th, the ticket sellers have it on the 11th, so we’ll go with that. Wrinklies like Prospero will remember the group from our distant past (Hush, Hey Joe!, Kentucky Woman, Smoke in the Water, etc.), when music was music – sorry, couldn’t help that. You can see a lot more about them in Wikipedia.
REMEMBER: JAZZ TONIGHT AT EL ANON
The Stik Cook Jazztet will be performing at El Anon TONIGHT at 8.30pm on the bar terrace. The band is made up by Atsuko Shimada (piano), Lipi Calvo (trumpet), El Polaco (percussion) and, of course, Stik Cook (bass). Entrance is free, so we might even see you there… It should be a great evening. (Back so soon, Stik?)

FLAMENCO FESTIVAL’S OFFICIAL PRESENTATION
This year’s Flamenco Festival, it’s 27th edition, was presented officially this morning at the headquarters of the Mancomunidad de Municipios together with other activities (click on ‘Read More’ below for details) that are held along with the Novena in honour of Jimena’s patron saint, Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles. The flamenco festival is at 10.30 on Friday, September 5th, at the square by the railway crossing. Tickets are €10 or €5. On the programme is one of flamenco’s most contemporary voices, Arcángel, who will be accompanied by guitarist Miguel Ángel Cortés. Another singer, in a more traditional style, is Antonio Reyes, while bailaora (flamenco dancer) Noelia Sabarea offers selections from her show Aborigen, which has recently opened the door to enormous success. LA CAIXA PLANETARIUM COMES TO JIMENA ON MONDAY
A travelling planetarium by a La Caixa charitable foundation comes to Jimena on Monday. It will be set up at the main village’s primary school, Ntra. Sra. de los Ángeles, opposite the post office, and stay there for two weeks, between September 1st and 12th. There will be two sessions each day at 7pm and at 9.45pm and entrance is free. But it is not only for children: adults are also welcome.
The heart of the planetarium is a projector that can show the 500 most prominent stars of our sky, seen on both hemispheres. Worth bringing the kids…
