Algeciras-Madrid train service to be suspended for at least three months

IMG_8428.jpg(Agencies) The Algeciras-Madrid-Algeciras train line is to be suspended for at least three months because the track between Algeciras and Bobadilla is being replaced, acording to Renfe. An alternative bus service linking Algeciras with Málaga, Ronda and/or Bobadilla will be set up. There is no firm date as to when work is to begin, but it will probably be on or around the 25th or 26th of next month.> Read the rest of this entry »

HIGH TENSION OVER ENDESA POWER LINE PYLONS by David Eade

The battle by residents of Gaucín to have power giant Endesa alter its plans for high tension supply line pylons that would destroy a beautiful valley is reaching a critical stage.
Jane Powell, who lives in Gaucín with husband John, first brought the Endesa threat to our attention in November of last year. On Monday she told us: “I find it amazing that when all governments are trying to establish  their green credentials the Spanish are allowing Endesa to spoil huge  areas of natural beauty. With the Spanish government trying desperately to recapture foreign investment and restore confidence in the property market is this the way to go?” Read the rest of this entry »

GAUCÍN ARTIST EXHIBITS AT LA CAÑADA

Lesley Riddihough, a resident in nearby Gaucín, is having an exhibition of oil paintings titled ‘Frutas y Flores’ at the La Cañada Golf Club in Guadiaro throughout April. The club is a great place for a coffee, while you view Lesley’s paintings. And, to be honest, our illustration does her paintings no justice at all. We hope Lesley will soon join our partner ‘art’ site JimenArte. Watch this (and that) space.

‘BULL ON A ROPE’ IN GAUCÍN

img_9499a.jpgThe traditional running of the bull, an annual event, takes place in Gaucín on Easter Sunday, the 23rd.

Given the lack of further information on the poster, please call a friend there to ask what time it is (we suspect it is in the morning) and let us know.

ENDESA SAYS POWER LINE HAS ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE

Endesa has told the Cádiz & Straits News that its new power line projects that cross through Gaucín have received all the environmental clearances demanded by the regional government. It has also rejected any suggestion that the purpose of the line is to supply power specifically to the golf course and urbanization currently under construction in San Pablo de Buceite.
