The mosaic set into the floor of Jimena’s Plaza de la Constitución, a.k.a. El Paseo, is showing serious signs of deterioration. This could be due to a distinct lack of policing at peak usage time, in the evening when the children are playing, or to lack of protective measures. The work of art was installed as part of the renovation of the square, and carried out by British mosaic artist Stephen Windsor-Clive, who lives in Gaucín and specializes in creating mosaics as the Romans did. We put this up to honour Sir Ian McKellen, who received the Donostia (Lifetime Achievement) Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival on Monday. You can read all about Sir Ian, who, among so many other parts on stage and screen, is probably best known for playing Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, on Wikipedia.
While we admit we’re a little late in putting this item up, we call your attention to the films being shown at Agaden’s Casa Verde headquarters just below the Town Hall. In particular, please note Oscar-winner Slum Dog Millionaire coming up on Wednesday 16th at 10pm.
