(Press release) Ildefonso Sebastián Gómez Ramos is the full name of Jimena’s former Mayor. He has accepted an invitation from the Council to officially open the next Feria de Agosto, which was issued because of his ‘intense relationship’ with Jimena, where he has lived since the 1980s.>

Ildefonso Gómez was Mayor from 1994 to 2007, when he decided to give up politics. A nurse by profession, he now heads the Immigrant Attendance Unit of the Andalucía Health Service for the Campo de Gibraltar.

His choice as pregonero comes about because the Council considers his contribution to the municipality invaluable. Among other cultural events he started during his terms of office are the International Music Festival, the History & Archaeology Workshops and the Mycology Workshops. He was, and is, also very involved in social work of all kinds.

Equally, the former Mayor represents those who, one way or another, have been part of the Corporation during democracy, in the year that celebrates the 30th anniversary of Democratic Councils.
