CAR BOOT SALE

Are you interested in setting up or taking space at a one- or two-time car boot sale in or near Jimena? Have you got loads of stuff you want to get rid of? Have you got an open space (mangled garden, field, or anything reasonably flat) you are willing to have trampled for a good cause (space could be charged for and proceeds donated to La Estrella)? Would you be willing to cooperate with some time or a few purchases? Prospero has a garage full of such stuff (see photo) that he no longer uses or wants and the time of year is coming up for a good ole car boot sale. LEAVE YOUR COMMENT BELOW.

HAVE YOU SEEN OUR PARTNER SITE B-BAY?

  1. I have a very large field to hold a car boot sale in, and have many items to sell, how many readers would be interested in having a stall here?

  2. Good one, Tanya!
I got stopped in the street yesterday and asked when we were going to do another AUCTION (We did one to raise funds for the first Music Festival)!!
So that’s another idea on the table…

  3. yep, for a fair price I would have a stall.

  4. Count me in too. I have quite a lot of unwanted goodies to get rid of.

  5. Me too and I am sure lots of other people - go for it!!!!!

  6. Yes, definitely up for it also. Lots of stuff to go,
from books to boots with some IT equipment and
rather a lot of miscellaneous as well.
Thanks for the venue offer Tanya!

  7. A good idea, but could it be on a Sunday as we work and Saturdays are a no no for the day off?

  8. Don’t think we’ve had so many comments on one posting. Funny what gets people moving!
KEEP THEM COMING - IN FACT, WHY DON’T WE CONSIDER THIS AS A SORT OF REGISTER OF ANYONE WANTING TO SELL STUFF THERE?

In response to JAN: What do you consider a ‘fair price’. €5, €10, €15 ? Remember, we’re supporting a charity here!

  9. As I am sat on my a**e all day doing nothing
can I help organise? Perhaps a refreshment stand?
Fair Price? - keep it cheap (5) and pass the hat round after if we have a good day?

Bye the way, I genuinely don’t know what Estrella plans to do with any moneys raised. Can someone
    enlighten me?

I am talking to Estrella comittee members as I type regarding a summer dance in June. Hope if I get the go ahead from them all readers will support? (and have fun!!)

  10. GREAT, JAN! We’ll get back to you on the stand thing, no fear. And I’ll be in touch with La Estrella so we don’t clash on dates.
As for what La Estrella does with the money, here’s some info posted last month:

WHAT IS LA ESTRELLA? It is an association of family and friends of the variously handicapped of Jimena de la Frontera. Our Stars - that’s what we call them, estrellas - range from the autistic to the severely physical and/or mentally handicapped. Our association is an umbrella under which we offer generalized support to them and their families. Present membership is only 75.
WHAT DO WE NEED? The Council and the parish church give us the basics: a room and as much support as they can. But our daily needs are complex and often difficult. Given the wide scope of the difficulties our Stars and their families undergo, some of whom have special treatment aside from and a lot more than we can offer, usually through either the Social Services or the National Health system, there are such things as additional speech therapy, psychological support, special orthopaedic support, summer camp activities, swimming supervision and, quite often, such simple things as transportation to the hospital or a therapy session when the car breaks down. It is these that we do our best to help with. And it all costs money.
HOW ARE WE FINANCED? While it receives an annual grant from the Council (this year it was €1200), it is otherwise self-financed. It is also true that fund-raising events are well-supported by the Council and by the population in general.
    HOW CAN I HELP?
    1. By becoming a member of La Estrella, which costs only €3 per month (please fill in a form).
    2. By supporting our fund-raising events (please keep an eye open for announcements).
    3. By donations (please ask at any of the banks or at La Tasca).

  11. Just a passing thought, though Sunday seems the logical choice for a boot sale it does clash with Sabanillas which MANY people attend. If it was on another day - and with some publicity - maybe some curious strangers would wend their way up to ‘have a look’. I think it depends on how many stalls there will
be. Probably would participate a few that have stalls at Sab if on another day?

  12. Just a thought but maybe consider a Sunday afternoon sale so people have time to get back from the Sabi market. Someone needs to start organising publicity around the villiage so we can get on with organising this great charity event! We could offer refreshments here and maybe some childrens activities to draw in more people.

  13. Okay, everyone thinks it is a good idea so now we have to decide a date. May 25st if it is to be a sunday?
And Tanya is right - posters have to go up in all the local bars-including those along the main road so people know in advance . (BOTH languages!!!)
leave it any later and the sunday strollers will be going to the beach.. I am sure there could be other
attractions organised for fun on top of what Tanya has to offer with the horses so now we need to know how many people are actually going to participate for definite……………………………..Come on folks!!!

  14. June 1st or 8th or both is better, I think, because there is a bit more guarantee on the weather…

  15. Yep I agree, can I suggest we set up a small committee so we know who is involved and the different jobs can be allocated to a particular person ie bookings of tables, advertising etc. Maybe we can ask readers if they would like to volunteer help in organising this charity event.

  16. Might not have anything left to sell for both dates prospero

    Ever hopeful!

  17. I still think that the amount of stallholders should be established before any further plans. There obviously has to be enough of us to make it worthwhile. How do we go about determining that prospero?

  18. Jan, you’re obviously very interested - why don’t you manage this? As far as I know, there are some 12 to 16 people interested in having a stall. I saw the field this morning and it looks as though that’s about as many as it’ll take.
Just to give you a hand, Jan:
WILL ANYBODY, EVERYBODY WHO WANTS TO HAVE A STALL PLEASE REGISTER HERE!
WILL ANYBODY, EVERYBODY WHO WILL VOLUNTEER TO BE USEFUL ON THE DAY, PLEASE REGISTER HERE!
WILL ANYBODY, EVERYBODY, WHO WILL VOLUNTEER TO HELP IN PREPARATIONS BEFOREHAND, PLEASE REGISTER HERE!
WILL ANYBODY, EVERYBODY, WHO HAS A PREFERENCE FOR A DATE IN LATE MAY-EARLY JUNE, PLEASE SAY SO HERE!
For my part, I’m very willing to promote this thing here and any other way I can, but I can’t get involved in the day-to-day. So,
WILL ANYBODY WILLING TO CO-ORDINATE AND/OR MANAGE THIS THING, PLEASE REGISTER HERE.
    One more thing:
    Q.What’s a horse designed by a Committee?
    A. A camel

  19. I am willing to take the bookings for the car boot sale, and do refreshments, I have a few bookings already so all readers please could you confirm with me if you require a stall.. I think 1st of June would be good but if others prefer anything different please let me know by end of week. If anyone is willing to put up some posters and spread the word sign up. Maybe we could meet up this week all those who wish to help?

  20. I am being asked if a price has been agreed. Has it?

  21. SUGGESTIONS SO FAR (verbal and on here):
DATE: Sunday June 1st. (Possibly a second round the following w/end or in September)
    PLACE: Tanya’s, just beyond Marchenilla.
PRICE for stall: €5 or €10 (depending on size?)
REFRESHMENTS: To be charged for at a profit, to go to La Estrella. They might be willing to run this themselves, as they have before.
SPACES: This is a CAR BOOT sale…

  22. mary of the pies would love a stall cos think i am being booted out of jarandilla. for me 8th june is the first possible and really only on sundays. working girl an all that…

  23. WHAT PROSPERO HAS DONE SO FAR:
    - Informed La Estrella. They agree and are waiting for final decisions on dates, etc. They will help as much as they can, of course.
    - Liased with Tanya on as much as poss. Seen suggested field, which looks fine if it can be ‘levelled’ a little.

WHAT PROSPERO WILL BE DOING A.S.A.P.:
    - Inform/request the Town Hall. Police might be needed on that corner…
    - Get TioJimeno involved, so we have local support.

  24. Hi I would be interested in having a stall at a fair price too please

  25. Posters for the boot sale will be put up by Friday in Ruiz Galan and Mercaronda, anyone wishing to pre-book a stall please contact me. The date will be 1st June and the cost will be 5 euros per table if a larger space is required 10 euros. Please book your space asap.

  26. Book me in for certain Tanya. The date sounds okay and 5€ is a fair price.

  27. Hi Tanya - 1 or 8 June seems fine and I am a definate - thanks

Could not see a number to contact you on so hopefully this email is enough - if not please let me know?

    Julie

  28. would like to book a space for the car boot please.

  29. Looks like Tanya has it all in hand so I just need to book my table………………so consider it booked!

  30. Seems that the 8th is a better date for at least three stall holders. Havent seen any posters up and about -
need any help with those tanya?

  31. Just looking in here, folks.
Am in Sevilla with too much work and no familiar computer. Am happy with 8th, and so would La Estrella be. Gives us more time, too!
ALSO, IF ANYBODY NEEDS TO CONTACT TANYA DIRECTLY, HER NUMBER IS ON THE SATURDAY PONY CLUB AD (Go to the Get it Here Shopping Guide column on right sidebar and click on RIDING). This might help her get a handle on a definitive list.

  32. Just to let you know I have prepared the poster and will be putting it up on Monday. 8th is fine with me.

  33. Hi Tanya

I won’t be here on 8 June unfortunately. If you need any help beforehand - putting up posters further afield or similar, let me know.

An idea - we have some tack we no longer use, including a County dressage saddle medium fit and an English leather double bridle complete with weymouth and bradoon. As the event is being held at the Saturday Pony Club and if you think there may be a market for the items, I could deliver them to you in advance. As they are not cheap items, I would be willing to pay a good commission to La Estrella upon their sale. Let me know if you think it’s a good idea or not.
