COUPLE ARRESTED AT BORDER
A Spanish man and a British woman were stopped yesterday at the frontier in La Línea when they were trying to cross into Gibraltar. They were under a ‘find and arrest’ (busca y captura) order from a court in Torrevieja , Alicante, on suspicion of murder.
Sources say that the matter began last week when the Guardia Civil in Torrevieja received an 061 emergency call from a home where a child had died. When they arrived they found indications that this had not been by natural causes: his ribs and skull were fractured and he had a cloth in his mouth.
The couple were seen hanging around the border, where they eventually asked a policeman what they needed to cross into Gibraltar. On being asked for their documents, the police cross-checked the man’s name and found him to be on an arrest list issued by the judge in Alicante. They were immediately detained and, when questioned about the child, the couple said that he had fainted and the cracked ribs were the result of trying to revive him.
The couple are now under arrest and awaiting transportation to Torrevieja.
