Well-known Jimena character Diego Moreno died this morning after a long illness. Our sincere condolences to his patient wife, Carmen, and his family. His interment takes place tomorrow at 11 am at the San Pablo cemetery.
Diego (that’s him on the left playing cards with some of his many his friends) was known by many of the earlier - and later, though less so - foreign settlers in Jimena. His serious demeanour belied a playful character and a lot of old-style Andalusian charm. He was a gentleman in the very best sense of the word, and like all gentlemen he had his moments, too. Of late, he could often be seen sitting at a table outside Bar El Ventorrillero, dressed in his customary elegant campo clothes (you couldn’t ask for a better guide to the local countryside), watching the world that was always his oyster go by. Descansa en Paz - Rest in Peace, old friend.
