Hi - it looks like it is the 2nd May, not the 20th that the switch occurs.
Hopefully they will go daily again, but if Iberia don’t think there is the demand perhaps Air Nostrum with their smaller aircraft could give it a try.
Hello Gibraltar!
As far as we know, this is the first comment coming from the Rock - welcome and thanks!
I’ll put up the change as soon as it’s confirmed. Who’s Air Nostrum? I’m obviously ill-informed…
Hello.
Air Nostrum are a private company who have a franchise from Iberia, they operate smaller aircraft under the brand “Iberia Regional”. They fly internal flights within Spain but also to destinations outside in France, Italy etc. So there shouldn’t be any political problem.
The good thing about about Air Nostrum is that on most of their flights/routes (note: there are some exceptions) they operate a single cabin - so all passengers get a business class on-board service regardless of ticket type. (Obviously though, different flexibility rules and conditions.)
Iberia (themselves) are currently a bit of a let down for a ‘flag carrier’ airline, they are the only airline in ‘OneWorld’ where you have to pay for refreshments in standard class on short haul flights. Regional widely regarded to offer a better service.
Personally, I think 2 daily flights to Madrid (i.e. morning and evening) with smaller aircraft could actually be more beneficial to people (particularly business people) at both ends of the route, making day returns possible.
There is currently nothing to suggest Air Nostrum are coming, but I think there would probably easily be enough demand even if there wasn’t enough demand for one of Iberia’s larger aircraft.
