A press release by opposition party Partido Andalucista says that ‘despite repeated demands for the accounts of past Music Festivals, the Town Hall has never made them public.’ It goes on to say that expenses for the festival have been one of the heaviest burdens on Jimena’s treasury, which is now undergoing ‘one of the worst crises in its history.’
‘They can disguise it any way they like,’ it continues, ‘but there are too many thousands of euros that have changed hands at the Festival without any explanation at all from the Council, which is why, if things are still not clear at the next Ordinary Council Meeting, we will request an Extraordinary one so that all the relevant documents are put on the table once and for all.’
The same communique states that there are performers in Spain and abroad, who have yet to be paid for their work, whereas the Council has only paid those it thinks might be needed later. ‘This has created a very negative image of the Town Hall, which in terms of the festival and other suppliers, is at a level of late payments that have been unthinkable until now.’
