According to one of the men (the foreman wouldn’t talk to us) working on the street passing the main square, the original pipe (see picture) has to be moved to the other side of the trench because, he said, “They made a mistake.” That is why they are yet again having to go over work already done. It is also a fact that to the left of the present pipe is a high voltage electricity cable, presumably running under the pavement.
The obvious questions are: 1. Who and why was a mistake of this importance made? 2. How come the planners/architects/whatever didn’t know about the cable? 3. Where are the town plans that must say where the cables lie? Have they been lost? Did anyone think to ask the electricity company?
