Further to our brief report on the national elections posted yesterday, these are the results for the Chamber of the Autonomous Region of Andalucía. As you can see from the graph, the PSOE is once again elected to power. In fact, the party has been in power since the advent of democracy thirty years ago. For a brief analysis
The polarization of votes that occurred in the simultaneous national elections held last Sunday were clearly reflected in these regional ones. The party that was most damaged by this phenomenon was Coalición Andalucista (CA - of which coalition Jimena’s opposition party, Partido Andalucista, is a major part), which was voted out of the Regional Parliament
The PSOE, headed by Manuel Chaves managed to obtain an absolute majority with 56 out of 109 seats (48%), leaving the Partido Popular (PP) with 47 (39%) and Izquierda Unida (IU) with 6 (7%).Voter participation in Andalucía was above the 73% mark, similar to that of the national elections.
Javier Arenas, who heads the PP, once again failed to win an election. Given that this is the umpteenth time he has tried, it would seem that he will have to analyze the reasons behind his party’s repeated losses.
RESULTS FOR THE PROVINCE OF CÁDIZ
This graph shows details of the election as it came out in the province of Cadiz and in Andalucía as a whole. Of the nine provinces that make up Andalucía, only two, Málaga and Almería, had the PP as the winner. The PSOE won Cádiz once again, also a reflection of the national and regional elections as a whole.
We will be offering an analysis of how these elections affect Jimena in an upcoming posting. We are also waiting for word of an interview with Jimena Mayor Pascual Collado for his opinion on the election results. Watch this space.
