“hello firstly thanks for such an informative blog and now that i know jimena so intimately i am desperate to spend some time in my overdue arenal apartment. I thought thro your contacts you might know someone who maybe took part in the sorteo and had an idea of when the habitation licence might be granted. i have read every article i can find on arenal/jimena but can find nothing more recent than the one stating that the draw was to take place towards the end of june.many thanks and kind regards

“Hello and Good Morning
I have just seen your blog for the first time and I think that it is brilliant.
My parents moved to Jimena last November and it has been a little bit of a struggle for them to integrate as the village is soo compact but no doubt full of life… if you can work out what time things open and close etc… its a bit of a mindfield!!
I have a few questions for you if you don´t mind?!?!?

Being a regular visitor here now, as are my sister and nephew, now that we know your blog exists we will be regular users…
Thank you very much for your help

About nursery care in Jimena…
There are two state run nurseries here (guarderias) - one in the main village of Jimena near to the Health Centre and the other in Estacion de Jimena near to the bank. Children can go there until they are 3 years old when they move into the school system. The formal application process for a place next year (starting September) closed a few weeks ago but your child can start at any time if they have a vacancy.
My little boy goes to the Estacion guarderia and loves it. It opens at 8am and closes at 4pm I believe, although my boy never stays for a full day so I’m not absolutely sure. Costs are subsidised depending on your circumstances - full cost being 145E / month this year. The staff are very supportive and caring. They are all Spanish speaking, so if you are not then you should take someone along to help when you go along to enquire about a place. The best time to turn up is between 9am and 10am when they are fully staffed and their doors are open to receive children arriving with their parents.
I hope this answers most of your questions and that your move goes well!
